16/09/2010 Excitement!!
I am so excited!
To begin, I have been unemployed for about 15 months. I guess if I really thought about it I could tell you in hours and minutes but I won’t. It is enough to say that with the closure of the company, one glorious career ended with only a word. That was all – layoff.
Although at the time, the sense of unreality was strong, it did not sink in there was no immediate work available. Everyone said, “Don’t worry. Your experience and background will get you in anywhere.” They were wrong to an extent. The company who bought us and then laid us offered jobs but only as 1099. I searched in my field of choice then expanded into other fields. There were a few close calls but ..no banana! As Dad would have said.
Finally, three weeks ago, I secured a position. I not only passed all the tests necessary for the position but the mandatory background checks as well. I was on pins and needles until I received the formal “Welcome” letter. At this point, I purchased a vehicle, one that runs!
Now, excitement is building along with some nervousness. It is all good. I am looking forward to working. I will not miss the last few months of “vacation”.
